PlantAlgae Facility

Created in 2013, the ’PlantAlgae’ facility allows the cultivation of Arabidopsis plants as well as microalgae such as marine diatoms under light and temperature controlled conditions within the IBENS building.

The facility is located on the garden level of IBENS and occupies approx. 140m2. It is currently equipped with 7 growth chambers and 19 growth cabinets, each one being individually programmable for specific temperature and photoperiod requirements.

The facility has been created by funding from ENS and CNRS and aims to provide both a research resource for the IBENS Section of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology as well as for teaching plant biology in Paris. The structure is complementary to the CEREEP-Ecotron Ile de France, located 80 km to the south of Paris, which is equipped with several environmental growth chambers that can reproduce real world conditions on small and micro scales in order to mimic diverse climatic and environmental conditions.
